Nottingham's Employer of Choice holds Charity Open Day for the NSPCC
22 August 2008
On Wednesday 23rd July, Staff at Domestic & General's Talbot Street call centre participated in a variety of activities whilst raising money for the NSPCC.
There was an interesting twist on the "back to the floor" exercise, when senior managers donned cloth caps and aprons to go around the call-centre fetching drinks for staff and selling cakes.
Staff paid to take part in a unique version of the Generation Game and raffle tickets were sold around the site to win prizes generously donated by local businesses including: Tonic Bar & Restaurant, Eden Hall Health Spa, Costco Wholesale and Trent Barton, also white goods manufacturers like Indesit and Electrolux.
Teams of employees were challenged to raise as much money for charity as they could in one hour in "Charity Apprentice". They had their very own version of Alan Sugar, "Debi Sweetner" a.k.a. Site Operations Manager, Debi Martin, to judge the winner.
Debi said, 'I have been really astounded by how much staff got involved today, the team spirit created has been phenomenal. In addition to raising £1,500, over 300 people visited our call-centre with a view to working for us - so as one of the biggest employers in Nottingham, hopefully we'll be saying "you're hired".'
Jo Dale, Corporate Manager for NSPCC/ChildLine, added, "I would like to thank D&G's call centre staff for all their hard work and enthusiasm as they raised an incredible amount of money for the NSPCC during their one day charity event.
It's a great example of how local people can make a real difference to the lives of children. The NSPCC runs 180 projects and services to help prevent abuse and enable children to overcome its devastating effects, but as 87 per cent of our funding comes from donations and fundraising, our work is heavily dependent on the support and generosity of the general public."
