Home Entertainment protection plans extends equipment covered
16 November 2005
Domestic & General, the repair plan specialist, has extended the equipment it will protect under its popular home entertainment policy plan to include LCD televisions with up to 27” screens. The home entertainment plan provides multi-appliance protection for televisions, DVD players and recorders, VCRs, camcorders, cameras, combination TV/DVD/VCRs, stereo equipment and now LCD screens for £9.99 per calendar month for three items or £15.99 for six. All appliances must be less than 8 years old and in good working order at the time the plan is taken out. Protection can then be renewed for the life of the equipment.
This Domestic & General plan has been designed to give customers peace of mind by providing expert advice and repairs, with parts and labour costs covered in the event of breakdown. Most products can be repaired, but if a product is deemed irreparable, the plan contributes to a replacement.
Families now have a wider range of entertainment systems in their homes and ownership is continuing to rise. Mintel’s 2004 British lifestyles survey shows an average of 2.3 TVs per family (that’s one TV per every UK inhabitant), and 61.4% of UK households own a DVD player.
It’s not only more cost-effective to repair products it’s also green. With the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive coming into force, Government is encouraging both industry and consumers to rethink the way they use and dispose of electronic equipment. It is proposing repair and re-use to extend product longevity and environmentally friendly disposal for worn-out products. Repairing worn-out or broken parts is a more efficient solution than just recycling alone.
The protection under the plan is fully flexible – customers are able to ‘switch’ items covered on the plan as and when they buy new products. Each item covered under the plan can have a value up to £1,500.
