D&G make it a 'Big One'
March 2007
Staff at D&G’s call centre in Nottingham took telephone donations of more than £164,000 for this year’s Big One – Red Nose Day.
Famous sporting faces, ex Forest player Nigel Jemson, Derby County captain Michael Johnson and Nottingham Rugby players Alex Loney and Ryan Hopkins swapped their busy schedules for a night taking calls for Comic Relief. Staff from other local businesses, Nottingham University students and over 200 staff, friends and family manned 140 lines from 7pm till midnight to take an astonishing 5,200 calls.
Employees also took part in various games throughout the day with some even shedding their hair for the occasion. The raffle alone raised over £1,000.
Debi Martin, D&G’s Site Operations Manager, said: “This year has been a great success – we would like to say a big thank you to the local celebrities, representatives of other Nottingham businesses, Nottingham University and our employees who gave up their evenings to take calls - and also to ASDA who donated food and drink to keep us going into the small hours.
“We managed to raise a significant amount of money and could not have done this without the support, dedication and commitment we received.”
